Frequently asked Questions and their Answers- if you have a question, send it to president@carolinamarines.org
- Most common question so far: what's the difference between the fun run and competitive run.
Spelling is the answer and timing and the fun runners won't have to do a couple of challenges that the competitive teams have to do. The Marines will also be a little more relaxed and not yelling as much at the fun runners. Well actually, they'll probably be more POed since they'll be hot and yelling more but it's just for your motivational purposes only.
- Is this event open to the public?
Yes, about 95% of our runners are from the public sector.
- There’s no way that I can do this event, can I still help?
Yes, please. We always need donations and volunteers. See below for donations and email info@carolinamarines.org to volunteer.
- Do you have age limits for runners?
No, but please ensure that your runners are capable of doing this event. Our youngest runner to date was 8 and he kicked it on the course. Our oldest runner to date was over 60 and a Vietnam veteran at that. Gator - where you at? Anyway, please make sure your team mates, regardless of age, can do the event. We don't want anyone getting hurt.
- Do we need to raise money for this fundraiser beyond the registration fee?
No but we surely would appreciate it. When you go to our donations and fundraiser website: http://www.active.com/donate/MUTC you can make a donation with a credit card, set up a fundraiser web page, etc. There are a number of teams collecting funds on their own. On the day of the race, please provide those donations collected directly to Aaron Harper. For tax purposes, donations are tax deductible in accordance with federal and state laws. Our organization’s tax ID is 20-5412141. Checks can be made out to “MCCCGC” and sent to Aaron Harper at 100 Belmont – Mt. Holly Road, Belmont, NC 28012. We can provide receipts for donations if requested for your taxes.
- How do I register for this event?
Please go to: http://4thmarinemudrun.eventbrite.com, once there, you'll be able to select the number and type of tickets you want to purchase for the event. This will start your registration process.
- Will this event really be that tough?
YES.
- Come on, will this event really, really be that tough?
YES. If your team has to walk during portions of the event, that's fine - you will be made fun of until our throats are scratchy and sore. Okay, we won't make fun of you because plenty of teams had to walk it out last year.
- Why do we have to do the duck walk?
Because enough competitors complained about it last year that we decided to added in two more duck walk areas. One, two, three, four, I love the Marine Corps!
- Does anyone make money from this event?
Absolutely not. All of our staff, the Marine Council, volunteers are working at this event for free. Okay, maybe they get a donated bagel and some coffee but that's it. They are awesome people who are doing this because they are very patriotic and care a great deal about our Marines, Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen.
- I don't have enough people to sign up a team, can you help find us some people?
Unfortunately, we can't do this. We highly recommend checking groups at meetup.com, local gyms, etc. to find running partners. If you register online and don’t have a team the day of the event, show up anyway and we’ll get you assigned to a team as there will be teams that show up with only 3 runners.
- My arm will be in a cast on the day of the event, can I still compete?
With your physician's approval and some common sense, you can still participate but we’d recommend that your team register for the fun run instead of the competitive run. For a number of the challenges, you will or should not complete them such as the wall climbs, etc. Your team will be flagged by the judges and they'll know not to expect the injured member not to participate and walk around the challenge. Your team will be running for fun not for awards though and we still want you to participate. Just don't get hurt or rather, don't get re-hurt.
- Have you had runners get hurt?
There have only been a few runners who have gotten some bad scrapes and cuts in the mud pit on small rocks. We do everything we can to make sure that the mud is "clean" but nature is nature and there are rocks in nature and on our course as a result. Just be careful! We have had a few runners get heat exhaustion - make sure your team is completely hydrated before, during and after the event - this is your responsibility. If your team is getting hot, stop running and get to a water station to get assistance. This event is designed for your fun and enjoyment - no prize or competition is worth risking your health or getting injury.
